Kapalua Bay: Calm Water, Easy Entry, Limited Parking

Repeatedly ranked among Hawai‘i's best swimming beaches — protected cove, gentle entry, good snorkeling at the points.

Kapalua Bay is a near-perfect crescent — protected on both sides by lava points, soft sand, water that is genuinely calm most mornings, and snorkeling along the rocks at either headland. The catch is the parking lot, which holds maybe 35 cars and fills before mid-morning.

What to know

  • Cost: Free.
  • Parking: Small lot off Lower Honoapiʻilani Rd; arrive by 8 AM in summer, 9 AM in winter, or be prepared to circle.
  • Facilities: Restrooms and showers at the beach.
  • Snorkel: Best on the right (north) point — coral and reef fish in 6–15 ft of water.
  • Best move: Pair it with a Honolua Bay snorkel two miles up the road on the same morning.
